DeMar DeRozan Traded to Chicago Bulls in Sign-and-Trade Deal with San Antonio Spurs

Spurs Acquire Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, and Future Draft Picks

The Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs have agreed on a sign-and-trade deal that sends five-time All-Star guard DeMar DeRozan to Chicago.

Terms of the Deal

The Bulls will receive DeRozan, who signed a three-year, $85 million deal with Chicago.

In exchange, the Spurs will receive:

  • Forward Thaddeus Young
  • Forward Al-Farouq Aminu
  • A 2025 first-round draft pick
  • A 2022 second-round draft pick

DeRozan's Career and Legacy

DeRozan spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Toronto Raptors, where he became a perennial All-Star and one of the most respected players in the NBA.

He was traded to the Spurs in 2018, where he helped lead San Antonio to the playoffs in his two seasons with the team.

Spurs' Rebuild

The trade of DeRozan signals a shift for the Spurs, who are entering a rebuilding phase after the departure of longtime star Kawhi Leonard.

The acquisition of Young and Aminu adds veteran leadership and experience to the young Spurs roster.

The draft picks acquired provide future flexibility and assets for the Spurs as they look to build a competitive team in the years to come.

Bulls' Contention Hopes Rise

The addition of DeRozan gives the Bulls a dynamic scorer and seasoned veteran to complement their young core led by Zach LaVine.

DeRozan's experience and leadership will be invaluable for a Bulls team looking to make a deep playoff run in the Eastern Conference.
