Lorde Releases Surprise EP of Māori-Language Solar Power Songs

"Te Ao Mārama" Features Five Tracks from the Album Re-Recorded in the Indigenous Language

New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde has released a surprise EP of five tracks from her "Solar Power" album re-recorded in the indigenous Māori language.

The EP, titled "Te Ao Mārama" (Māori for "world of light"), was released on Friday, September 9th, through Universal Music New Zealand.

The tracks on "Te Ao Mārama" are all sung in Māori, and feature new interpretations of the songs from "Solar Power." The EP was recorded at Roundhead Studios in Auckland, and was produced by Lorde and Jack Antonoff.

In a statement, Lorde said that she wanted to record the EP as a way to connect with her Māori heritage.

"I'm so proud of my Māori heritage, and I'm really excited to share this EP with the world," she said. "I hope that it will help to raise awareness of the Māori language and culture, and inspire other Māori artists to create their own music."

The release of "Te Ao Mārama" has been met with critical acclaim, with many praising Lorde for her commitment to cultural preservation and her beautiful renditions of the songs.
