Cruise Cash and Credit: What You Need to Know
Card Holds and Cashless Systems
Cruising can be a relaxing and enjoyable way to see the world, but it's important to be prepared when it comes to money. Many cruise ships have a cashless onboard system, which means that passengers are not required to carry cash. However, it's still a good idea to have some cash on hand for emergencies or for tipping crew members.
Card Holds
If you register a credit card with the cruise line, the cruise line will place a hold on your account for the amount of your expected expenses. This hold will be released after you disembark the ship. However, if you change to another card or cash during your sailing, you may still see holds on the original card.
Cashless Systems
Do You Need Cash on a Cruise? Since cruise ships have a cashless onboard system passengers will not be required to carry cash. However, it's still a good idea to have some cash on hand for emergencies or for tipping crew members. Most cruise ships have ATMs on board, but they may charge a fee for withdrawals.
