Auburn Welcomes New Head Football Coach

SEO-Optimized Blog Post for Google Search Rankings

Auburn, Ala. - After a thorough search process following Bryan Harsin's firing, Auburn and Hugh Freeze agreed to a contract on Monday, making Freeze the 31st head football coach in Auburn's 129-year history. Freeze joins the Auburn Tigers from Liberty University, where he led the Flames to a 34-15 record, including two bowl victories and a top-25 ranking in 2022.

Prior to his time at Liberty, Freeze spent five seasons as head coach at Ole Miss, where he compiled a 39-25 record and led the Rebels to three bowl appearances. However, Freeze resigned from Ole Miss in 2017 following an NCAA investigation into recruiting violations.

Despite the concerns surrounding his past, Freeze is a proven winner who is known for his uptempo, high-scoring offense. He inherits an Auburn team that went 5-7 in 2022 and has struggled to compete for SEC Championships in recent years. Freeze's hiring is seen as a bold move by Auburn, with the potential for both upside on the field and risk of embarrassment off it.
